The Goethe-Institut Kenya presents a trilogy of small town crime. It is a project by three renowned German filmmakers Dominik Graf, Christoph Hochhäusler and Christian Petzold.

The trilogy revolves around Molesch, an asylum inmate, who is convicted for sexual crimes that were never proven without any doubt. A security video shows him and the victim shortly  before the crime, but the critical minute is lost by material fault, not reconstructable. Whilst paying farewell to his dead mother in a hospital, Molesch escapes through a hidden backdoor, and takes refuge in the forest.

That's how the manhunt begins, pegged down in three films, each one with its own plot, but together the trilogy constructs a narrative maze, whose depths hints at other partially concealed stories, mostly involving the lives of the police, engaged in the central manhunt thread, and also managing their private lives. DREILEBEN moves swiftly through a vast array of storytelling genres: suspense thriller, horror film, character study, love story.

This project arose from e-mail discussions between a trio of respected German writer-directors, Christian Petzold, Dominik Graf and Christoph Hochhäusler, all members of the "Berlin School". The result is three separate, though linked takes on the same manhunt story.
