Son and grandson of a griot, El hadj Sory Kandia Kouyaté is the first to have gained international fame in the 1950s. He was the griot reconciling people in conflict through his singing. Today, many hear about Sory Kandia but few know him. This mezzo-soprano voice has amazed all of Africa and the whole world. His story should be taught in schools and at major international gatherings.
