May E HOSSAMY is an artist, photographer, director and academic.
May El Hossamy graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University (Egypt) and earned a PhD in the same field in France.
She won the Best Documentary Short Award for her documentary Censored Love (Défense d'aimer) (2012), at the 9th Rencontres de l'Image (Cairo, April 2013). The documentary, made during the 2012 Ateliers Varan in Cairo and produced by Semat, was selected for Paris' Cinéma du Réel in March, and is off to Marseilles' Arab Film Meetings. As a prize, the filmmaker has now also been invited to the Marseille Documentary Film Festival (FID, France), beside a summer course at the Fémis film school in Paris.
