THE OUTRAGED
Indignados is a fictional account in real time of what's happening today, plunging us into the dense, palpable reality of Europe in revolt. At the heart of current events, at the center of the Occupy movement, we discover, through the eyes and experience of Betty, a young illegal alien from Africa, men and women standing up to the system, simply to get by.
Stéphane Hessel's book Time for Outrage! sparked a transgenerational awakening that is gaining ground across Europe as it teeters on social implosion. Betty confronts this reality and the absurd situations it engenders on the fringes of a Europe in crisis. From despair to hope, Betty marches and runs to the song of exile in this eldorado pulsating with the masses as they chant their wake-up call.
Through her journey and her encounters with people coming together in solidarity, Betty expresses the pain and dreams of her exile in a Europe seeking its lost compassion as it tries to place human values back at the center of the system.
Malraux called art an "anti-destiny". Cinema can, and must, be this anti-destiny. It's a question of ethics and will. And where there's a will, there's a way.
