South African documentary filmmaker and photographer

Aliki SARAGAS-GEORGIOU is a South African documentary filmmaker and photographer. She is known for "Strike a Rock" (2017) and "I, Mary" (2021).

Aliki is a South African documentary filmmaker and photographer based in Johannesburg. Her photojournalism has been featured on Al Jazeera English and her work recognised worldwide. Aliki's first documentary feature film, "Strike a Rock", had a very successful local and international festival run including Sheffield Doc/Fest and IDFA and has won multiple awards including the Amnesty International Award for Human Rights (2017), Best Documentary (2017/2018) in multiple juries across the world including DIFF, Encounters, Sole Luna (Italy) Beirut Women's Festival and more, and was nominated for two SAFTAs. Aliki was selected as one of the 100 Young Mandelas of the future (2018), IDFAcademy (2017), Durban Talents (2018) and Durban FilmMart (2019).
Aliki is the owner of Elafos Productions, a female-lead documentary production company that focusses on cinematic storytelling. Her new film "I, Mary" was released in 2021.
