Marion Hänsel was born in Marseille, France. She set up her own company,Man's Films, in 1977 and made her first short film "Equilibres" (1977). She was named Belgian Woman of the Year in 1987, and was elected President of the Belgian Film Selection Board in 1988. Herfilms include "The Bed" (1982), "Dust" (1984), "Il Maestro" (1989), "On Earth asin Heaven" (1991), "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" (94), which screened at the Toronto Film Festival, The Quarry" (1998), "Clouds: Letters to my Son" (2001), "Sounds of Sand" (2006) and "Black Ocean" (2010).
