Comment: Through tightly controlled speed, rhythm and use of vivid images, tense and sometimes explosive drama in his latest work, lurk the moral and metaphysical themes of obedience and revolt, faith and indifference, and the problematic kinship between art and violence in man's quest for freedom. Some of his ideas are reminiscent of the French and Germanic writers loosely connected with the existentialist movement and with Camara Laye; but as a storyteller his temperament, if not style, reminds one of Saul Bellow.
