Born in 1957 in Bukavu (Congo) Jean van de Velde grew up in Burundi and Rwanda, went to high school in Holland, graduated in 1974 and started his studies at the Amsterdam Filmschool. He founded a filmcompany in 1978 together with Rene Seegers and Leon de Winter and wrote, produced and directed several television- documentaries, television single plays and featurefilms.
In 1985 Jean van de Velde started his own company and wrote and directed many succesfull Dutch featurefilms. Jean van de Velde is or has been member of different filmboards, among which the Dutch Film Fund and the Dutch Film Festival. From June 2000 till September 2003 he was Head of Development of Commercial Feature Films of the Dutch Film Fund. In 2000 he received an international Emmy Award for his television-series ALL STARS, that later has been remade in several European countries.
During the Dutch Film Festival 2005 Jean van de Velde was ?Guest of the Year' and honoured with a retrospective of his work. In 2004, Jean van de Velde was honoured as Guest of the Year at the Netherlands Film Festival with a retrospective of his work.
Jean van de Velde lives with his wife and two children in Utrecht.
